Cultivating Natural Playgrounds Workshops Series: If I Had a Hammer – Woodworking at Your Centre

Woodworking with young children is a lost art. Many educators cringe at the thought and begin to visualize cut fingers and flying hammers.

Participants joined Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds for this fun, hands on workshop to get past their fears and learn some woodworking skills. Participants discovered how woodworking uses math, problem-solving, fine motor, and social skills, while fostering creativity and imagination. In this workshop, we reviewed the importance of woodworking, understanding where to start, the tools to use, and the safety protocols to implement. Participants were offered a dozen hands-on activities to bring to back their centres.

What Participants Had to Say

“This was an amazing experience. I can’t wait to have my children use these tools in our room.”
“I found the presenter’s knowledge of young children and their capabilities to be informative and inspiring.”
